FAT TRANSFER Injections (Microlipoinjection)

Fat injection, also known as autologous fat transplantation, and microlipoinjection, is a procedure whereby fat is harvested from one’s own body and injected back into other various areas such as the breasts. Removing fat from the body has become the goal of many people trying to achieve a more desirable figure. Now why would someone want to get rid of fat, only to have it reintroduced back into other areas of their body? How are Fat Injections Performed?

Fat injections are typically a quick procedure, usually taking around 30 minutes to an hour, possibly longer, depending upon the patient. Transfer to the breasts takes much longer since more fat is needed. The fat transfer to the breast is usually taken from the abdomen, back, flanks or thighs . Pain is minimal because anesthesia is administered to the area where fat will be removed and the areas where fat will be reintroduced. These areas are overfilled with fat to allow for absorption following treatment. This may make the face temporarily appear puffy or swollen . People who undergo fat injections can return to their normal daily routines soon after treatment. Bruising, swelling or redness in both the donor and injected areas are expected. However this swelling and puffiness may only last few weeks. Because fat injections use fat harvested from your own body, any form of allergic reaction is prevented.

How Long Will These Results Last?

Patients must understand that the results of fat injections are usually not permanent (loose approximately 40- 50% over time) due to nornal aging.  Studies on transfer to the breast have show that 90% of the fat injected will remain.  Results of fat injections usually vary from patient to patient.

Breast Implants vs. Fat Injections

Fat injections are a growing option for refining breast appearance. Before you decide you want to pursue implants or lipoinjection, make sure you know the difference between the two.

A breast enhanced with fat is completely fluid, and the enhancement is virtually undetectable. Breast implants can be felt and sometimes seen beneath the skin.

A woman must have an ample fat supply to achieve the volume of enhancement she desires using lipoinjection. Implants come in varying sizes and shapes to accommodate different body types and volumetric increases.

Some of the fat injected may not survive (10 %), so a woman may lose volume or need more than one procedure to achieve her desired size. Most women want another injection to increase the breast size even more with the fat removed from another site. Placing an implant is theoretically a one-time procedure, although throughout life, a woman may want to or be advised to have her implants replaced. Implants can cause capsulization or may rupture.

Surgery to augment breasts with fat is a two-step procedure (harvesting and lipo injection) lasting six to eight hours with a little higher price tag. Remember you are getting Liposuction of the abdomen (or other part) and the fat transfer. 

Recovery following lipoinjection is somewhat about the same as with implant surgery, as both the breast and the donor site must heal. It may take 3 months or more for final results to take shape after injections, whereas final implant results appear within six to eight weeks
