Breast Lifts

There was a time when having a breast lift meant that you would be left with large, unsightly scars. This was a major surgery that required general anesthesia and resulted in significant recovery time. Those days are over. Breasts lifts can now be performed under local anesthesia with minimum invasiveness.
Dr. Cappiello prefers a procedure that combines liposuction with a vertical mammoplasty. This procedure can be done easily with a local anesthesia called tumescent anesthesia. Not only is tumescent anesthesia safer than general anesthesia, it can last up to 48 hours. This makes for a good pain reliever after surgery when the patient has returned home.

A vertical mammoplasty results in very little scarring. The only visible scar will be a small vertical line under the breast.  This is a much less invasive procedure. The small incision allows for quick recovery time and reduced pain and bruising. Patients usually return to their normal activities within 2-3 days. Vertical mammoplasty is performed along with liposuction when the breast needs significant lifting.

Liposuction reduces the size of the breast in direct proportion to how much fat is removed from the breast. When the breast is reduced in size, the natural tissues in the breasts are allowed to retract and produce a natural looking lift.  In the case of a modest breast lift, liposuction alone can be used. This allows for very minimal recovery time, scarring, pain and bruising.
Liposuction of the breast is not for everyone. Only patients with a significant amount of fat will benefit from a lift with liposuction. Women over 40 and women who have been through menopause tend to have higher volumes of fat in the breast.
