Breast Reduction

Many women seek out plastic surgery in order to have their breasts enlarged but some women have the desire to reduce the size of their breasts. Large, heavy breasts can cause daily problems. Clothing can be difficult to find and hard to fit into. But more serious problems can be caused by breasts that are too heavy. Health problems such as persistent back, neck and shoulder pain can be a result of breasts that are too large. If this is the case, you may want to consider a breast reduction.
Breast reduction surgery can be performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Cappiello’s state of the art surgery center which is certified by the state of Florida. Dr. Cappiello’s experience with tumescent anesthesia allows the patient to undergo surgery without the risks associated with general anesthesia.  In addition, tumescent anesthesia can act as a pain reliever after surgery as it can last up to 48 hours.

Dr. Cappiello prefers to use liposuction paired with vertical mammoplasty for a breast reduction. Vertical mammoplasty allows the patient to achieve the desired breast size without large scars. The only resulting scar is a small vertical line under the breast.

Liposuction is a less invasive way to perform a breast reduction. Liposuction will reduce the size of the breast in direct proportion to how much fat is removed.  Anywhere from 20-50 percent reduction in breast volume is possible with liposuction.

Breast reduction using liposuction has many advantages. Recovery time is short. Patients usually return to normal activity within 2-3 days after surgery. Bruising, pain and scarring are minimal. Liposuction for the breast carries very little risk of post-operative complications.
This procedure is not for everyone. Liposuction for breast reduction works best in patients over 40 years of age. Women over 40 have breasts that contain a larger portion of fat which is required for liposuction to be effective in this procedure. Women who have gone through menopause have breasts with a higher percentage of fat.
